TrickEye Museum

Singapore’s Trick Eye Museum is a unique attraction filled with 3D paintings and optical illusions that create stunning effects that make you look like you’re hanging off a cliff, stepping into a painting, or even surfing a giant wave without actually getting wet! This quirky and interactive museum offers a fun way for the whole family to spend an afternoon and snap some cool photos.

Museum of Ice Cream

This museum isn’t just about ice cream (though, let’s be honest, that’s a big drawcard); it’s a totally interactive, Instagrammable experience designed to let your inner child come to life. There is a pool filled with ice cream sprinkle replicas, and a banana-scented room that’ll have your senses tingling. Every corner of this museum is a vibrant backdrop for your next Insta post. And don’t forget to taste some of the weird and wonderful ice cream flavours!

The Museum of Ice Cream is located a bit outside the city centre but it’s absolutely worth the trip. It’s conveniently located near the Botanical Gardens so we recommend combining your trip with a visit to the National Orchid Garden.

Expert Tip: The museum offers discounted tickets on weekdays and it’s also less crowded.

The Intan

The Intan is a truly unique experience in Singapore, and is a bit of a hidden gem. Nestled in the Joo Chiat area, this treasure trove is a museum but it’s also a tour through someone’s private home, so you must book in advance—unfortunately you can’t just turn up.

Your visit offers the chance to explore inside a real traditional Singaporean shophouse and experience the rich heritage of the Peranakan culture first hand! The Intan is filled with artifacts, from intricate beadwork and traditional costumes to beautiful, hand-painted porcelain, and is an absolute must-do for culture buffs!

We recommend booking the tea experience or the private dinner with the owner of The Intan.

Temples & Mosques

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

If you’re exploring Singapore’s Chinatown, you can’t miss the striking Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a majestic piece of architecture that feels like a step back in time. This temple is a place of worship and a museum that represents the Tang dynasty architectural style. The temple is named after its most precious item, what is believed to be the left canine tooth of Buddha.

  • Location: Chinatown
  • Nearest MRT Station: Maxwell (TE18)
  • Cost: Entry to the temple is free, making it a must-visit for budget travellers.
  • Opening Hours: 7 am to 5 pm daily (the museum opens at 9 am)
  • Best Time to Go: The best time to visit is early in the morning when it opens at 7 am, however if you wish to visit the museum as well, then arrive closer to 9 am.

Thian Hock Keng Temple

Thian Hock Keng, which translates to “Temple of Heavenly Happiness,” is one of the oldest and most important Hokkien temples in Singapore. Built in the 1840s by early Chinese immigrants, it was originally a point of thanksgiving for safe sea passages.

Its a place of stunning architecture, with intricate tiles, towering columns, and detailed carvings, nestled between modern skyscrapers and busy coffee shops

  • Location: Telok Ayer
  • Nearest MRT Station: Telok Ayer (DT18)
  • Cost: Entry is free
  • Opening Hours: 7:30 am to 5 pm daily
  • Best Time to Go: Visiting early in the morning is my favourite time as the temple is less crowded.

Foodie Experiences

Enjoy a Meal at a Hawker Centre

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure, Singapore’s hawker centres are like foodie heaven. And so cheap! (Expect to spend under SGD 10 for most dishes).

There’s an array of Singaporean dishes to try and each Hawker Centre has its own special dishes. Hainanese Chicken Rice and Singapore Chilli Crab tend to be the favourites. Also, Char Kway Teow (stir-fried noodle dish) is another local specialty to try.

So, which hawker centres should you hit up? Start at Maxwell Food Centre near Chinatown (famous for its Tian Tian Chicken Rice). Next, swing by the Old Airport Road Food Centre which is slightly outside the city centre, but easily accessible by MRT. But one of my favourites is Lau Pa Sat due to its charming architecture – this place really comes alive in the evening. For something a little less touristy try Tiong Bahru Market.

  • Cost: Expect to spend around S$8-15 for a dish at a Hawker Centre. Prices tend to be higher at the more popular Hawker Centres.

Try a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar (Raffles Hotel)

An absolute must-try experience that I recommend to anyone visiting Singapore is visiting the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling. It’s a totally touristy thing to do, but it’s also a lot of fun.

Learning the history of the Long Bar and how the Singapore Sling was created is quite interesting. The world-famous cocktail was created right here in 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. I’ll leave the rest of the story to learn when you visit!

The bar’s colonial decor and the unique tradition of tossing peanut shells on the floor (yes, it’s encouraged!) makes for a fun atmosphere. A Singapore Sling here might be a bit pricier than your average drink, but you’re paying for the experience.

  • Location: Civic District
  • Nearest MRT Station: City Hall (EW13/NS25)
  • Cost: The Long Bar is free to enter but you can’t just walk in and have a look, a Singapore Sling costs SGD 37 (peanuts are included!)
  • Best Time to Go: The Long Bar is open to walk-ins only. It’s quite popular and can get crowded, especially during late afternoon. Visiting when they first open or later in the evening is the best time.
  • Opening Hours: 11 am to 10:30 pm (closes at 11:30 pm Thursday to Saturday)
  • Plan Your Visit: Click here to find out more.

Dine at one of Singapore’s Best Restaurants

When it comes to dining in Singapore, the city is literally a smorgasbord of culinary choices ranging from ahh-mazing street food to high-end gastronomic experiences. If you’re a foodie or just looking to treat yourself, Singapore’s Michelin-starred restaurants are a must-do experience to add to your itinerary.

One of our top recommendations has to be Odette, a three-Michelin-starred restaurant located in the National Gallery. Another gem is Burnt Ends, a one-Michelin-starred restaurant known for its modern Australian barbecue. For a unique blend of innovation and fun, Tippling Club is another fantastic choice that offers a modern menu paired with an exceptional cocktail list!

Visiting these places, it’s best to book in advance as they’re quite popular, especially on weekends.

  • Cost: Expect to spend at least SGD 100++ for lunch or at least SGD 250++ for dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Singapore.

Expert Tip: If you’re looking to save money but still enjoy a Michelin Star experience then book a lunch sitting. The lunch menus are usually slightly paired down in portion size but offer the same amazing flavours.

Have a Drink at a Rooftop Bar

If you’re looking to elevate your Singapore experience (quite literally) then you can’t miss out on the city’s fabulous rooftop bars. Perched atop some of the tallest buildings, these spots offer not just delicious cocktails but breathtaking views that make any evening unforgettable.

One of the more popular spots is 1-Altitude. Sitting on the 63rd floor, it claims the title of the world’s highest alfresco bar. The 360-degree view of the Singapore skyline here is unparalleled, and the vibe is always buzzing.

Another great location is CE LA VI, which you’ll find on top of the iconic Marina Bay Sands Hotel. This spot is all about glamour and sophistication, paired with stunning views of the Marina Bay and beyond. It’s a great way to see this iconic rooftop without actually staying at the hotel.

Last but not least, don’t miss Lantern at The Fullerton Bay Hotel. This bar offers a more upmarket and intimate setting and is great for those who want to enjoy a more chilled experience. The view of the Marina Bay waterfront is spectacular, and the ambiance here is just right for unwinding or having a romantic night out.

Expert Tip: Booking a spot at one of these rooftop bars at sunset is the best move!

Join a Food Tour

One of the best ways to sample some local Singaporean dishes is to join a local food tour. These tours often involve a bit of walking (so you can burn off all the delicious calories you’re going to take in), so you get to see a bit of the cityscape as well. An evening food tour is best, where you’ll visit a number of Hawker Centre’s around Chinatown and taste a variety of different dishes.

Singapore Shopping

Shopping at Orchard Road

The stunning tree-lined boulevard called Orchard Road is a shopper’s paradise. This spot offers two kilometres of shopping malls from high-end designer fashion to urban streetwear.

If you’re after high-end brands, ION Orchard and Paragon are your go-to spots. They house everything from Prada to Gucci, and even window shopping here feels like flipping through the pages of a luxury fashion magazine. For more mid-range and high-street brands, check out Orchard Central and Somerset 313. They’ve got a great mix of international and local brands that won’t break the bank. Plus, Orchard Central has some of the best rooftop dining spots, perfect for resting those weary shopping feet while you take in the cityscape.

  • Location: Orchard
  • Nearest MRT Station: Orchard (NS22/TE14)
  • Best Time to Go: Avoid the weekend crowds and plan your shopping trip on a weekday.

Shopping at The Shoppes @ Marina Bay Sands

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is Singapore’s premier luxury shopping destination! This is the place to come for high-end designer labels like Gucci, Chanel, Cartier, and more.

The Shoppes is home to over 170 premium boutiques, including a floating Louis Vuitton and Apple store that has to be seen to be believed!

But it’s not just about the shopping at The Shoppes. There’s also a casino or an indoor canal where you can take a leisurely ride on a traditional Sampan boat.

The Shoppes is located near the ArtScience Musueum, The SkyPark Observation Deck, and the Spectra Laser Light Show, so you can combine your shopping trip with these other activities.

  • Location: Marina Bay
  • Nearest MRT Station: Bayfront (CE1/DT16)
  • Opening Hours: 10 am to 10 pm
  • Best Time to Go: Afternoon or early evening. Weekdays are less crowded.

Exploring Singapore’s Neighbourhoods

Explore Chinatown

Wandering around Chinatown is a quintessential Singaporean experience.

Start your visit at the Chinatown Heritage Centre on Pagoda Street to get a glimpse into the lives of early Chinese migrants. From there, weave through the bustling streets and markets, check out the street art and colourful shophouses, before stopping to indulge in some local cuisine. My personal favourites are the Hainanese Chicken Rice or the Chilli Crab!

End your walking tour at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple near Maxwell MRT Station.

  • Location: Chinatown
  • Nearest MRT Station: Chinatown (NE4/DT19)
  • Best Time to Go: The best time to visit Chinatown is in the late afternoon when the market stalls are in full swing and as the sun sets, the streets light up with Chinese lanterns.

Explore Little India

Little India is one of our favourite areas in Singapore. It’s a bustling hub of colourful streetscapes lined with gold sellers, food stalls, and spice shops. The street art is a major drawcard for tourists. Featuring street walls lined with beautiful murals and vibrant coloured heritage buildings, such as the Former House of Tan Teng Niah. You must also visit the temples, such as the stunning Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple with its intricate carvings and serene atmosphere.

The amazing Indian food is another reason to visit Little India. After exploring the neighbourhood, hit up the Tekka Centre for a delicious biryani!

  • Location: Little India
  • Nearest MRT Station: Little India (DT12/NE7)
  • Best Time to Go: I love the mornings when the market is lively yet not too crowded, perfect for a leisurely stroll and some impromptu photo ops.

Explore Kampong Glam

Kampong Glam in Singapore is a vibrant neighbourhood offering a blend of historical charm and trendy vibes. It’s the cultural hotspot of Singapore, filled with colourful street art, quirky boutiques, and some of the coolest cafes you’ll find in the city. Take a stroll along Haji Lane, a popular alley lined with murals, boutique shops and vintage stores.

No trip to Kampong Glam is complete without a visit to the majestic Masjid Sultan Mosque. Afterwards, head over to Arab Street where you’ll find delicious Arabic food and market stalls.

  • Location: Kampong Glam
  • Nearest MRT Station: Bugis (DT14/EW12)
  • Best Time to Go: Late morning to early afternoon gives you plenty of time to explore before it gets too busy. However, Kampong Glam is abuzz in the evening.

Explore Katong & Joo Chiat

Katong and Joo Chiat is one of the prettiest neighbourhoods in Singapore, known for its beautifully preserved shophouses and excellent food scene.

Taking a wander through Katong and Joo Chiat, you’ll encounter pastel-coloured shophouses, adorned with intricate Peranakan tiles and architecture. There’s also plenty of tiny boutiques that dot the area, where you can find everything from handmade jewellery to bespoke perfumes.

A visit to the famous Koon Seng Road is a must for its picture-perfect rows of Peranakan houses. And you can’t leave without stopping by Kim Choo Kueh Chang for some traditional rice dumplings or 328 Katong Laksa for a bowl of spicy, coconutty goodness!

  • Location: Katong and Joo Chiat Road
  • Nearest MRT Station: Paya Lebar (CC9/EW8) Eunos (EW7)
  • Best Time to Go: Early morning or late afternoon.
